    • Brush Sample

    Description

    The same brush engines the developers use for Corel Painter are available for the user.  The ability to manipulate brushes is a very powerful tool.  This class is designed to give the student a basic working knowledge of brush making and will demonstrate the process in a logical and systematic way.  Each week the student will create a painting with the brushes developed.  This class will be a pre-requisite of the Intermediate and Advanced Brush making classes.

    Skill Level

    Intermediate or Advanced.

    Software Requirements

    • ®Corel Painter 12
    • Corel Painter at time of posting Service Pack I

    Hardware Requirements

    • System requirements to run Painter 12.  It is strongly advised that your machine be above the basic requirements.
    • A Wacom tablet or its equivalent; good pressure sensitivity is strongly recommended.

    Before Class

    There are no before class assignments at this time..

    Week One

    The Basic Brush Control Panels.

    We will cover:

    1. General understanding of the brush making process.
    2. How to create and save a brush and a brush category
    3. The basic brush control panels that are used by all brushes
    4. Dab Types, the first five.

     

    Week Two

    Rendering versus Dabs

    This week we will explore the differences between Dabs and Rendered Dabs.  We will learn how to make useful captured dabs, and we will look at specific brush control panels and how they affect brush properties like impasto.  We will explore making papers for brushes.  A painting will be completed illustrating the lessons of the week.

    Week Three

    Air, Acrylic, Oil, and Hard Media

    This week we will begin to look at specific brush types and how they work.  The student will create a brush set for a particulare medium discussed and create a painting with the set.  We will learn how to share brush sets.

    Week Four

    Water and Ink

    Like in week three we will continue to look and work with specifc brush types.  We will look at novelty brushes and a few of the oddities.  At this point we will be prepared to graduate to the intermediate level of brush making.
