You need to recognize that Color Theory is a very complicated subject and has more to do with Physiology than anything else. It all begins with the eye. You have heard it said time and time again that an artist has a good eye for color, and that is the truth. We will learn that Complementary colors are used to create visual impact, and not necessarily to be harmonious. Learning to choose the right colors will help you to create paintings that are engaging.

Painter 12 has a new system for organizing, customizing, and using the various materials and tools available. For example, a palette is an object (like a file drawer) which holds two or more panels (like file folders). A panel is an object which contains materials and/or tools. Most panels also contain option menus which give you various choices related to the panel. Let’s explore this further with an example.

Welcome to Open Studio, Summer Skies! By now most of you have defrosted from the cold of winter and are looking forward to warmer days. Depending upon where you live, summer skies can either be a boring blue every day, or full of dramatic towering thunderheads. This Open Studio will introduce you to a variety of brush categories in Painter 12 from Chalk and Oils to Watercolors. Each week we will work with a new group. Open Studio classes give the student the chance to improve upon their painting skills in a relaxed and supportive environment.
