Cat Bounds
Catherine “Cat” Bounds grew up in rural Arkansas where she taught herself to draw and throughout her early adulthood applied her artistic talents to everything from needlework to quilting to decorative painting, but she never pursued art as a career until she and her husband moved near New Orleans, and she became enamored with the vibrant, expressive painting styles of the French Quarter street artists. As with all her interests, Cat immersed herself in learning to paint in watercolors, acrylics, and oils, studying with some of the country’s best known artists and re-enrolling in college to begin working on a third degree, this time in art. Within a year, she was a working member of an art guild and selling her paintings in an art gallery in Hot Springs, Arkansas, one of America’s premier art communities.
When Cat bought her first computer, and it seemed a natural transition when she began to gravitate toward digital art; she set about learning PhotoShop, Painter and PaintShop Pro in order to translate her traditional art techniques into digital art using dual monitors and a Wacom Intuos III graphics tablet.
Cat has won numerous awards and is a published writer, including tutorials and articles in Corel Painter Magazine. She has certifications in education, psychology, creative writing and art therapy and is always reaching for the next challenge, always learning and believes that art is a language, allowing us to communicate with one another on a higher plane than mere words allow.
She and her husband have two grown sons and live near Little Rock. When asked which among her hundreds of paintings is her favorite, she answers, “The one I’m planning next.” You may view examples of her digital art, traditional painting and photographs at http://www.pbase.com/catbounds
