Madeleine Jacobs
I’ve always had a fascination with creating things and as a kid, a passion for painting. No one ever had a problem figuring out what to get me for Christmas…it was paint sets, pencils and paper!
As I got older, I realized that my lifetime was going to be too short to learn all the things I wanted to learn and play with (woodcarving, glassblowing, woodburning, engraving, ceramics…you name it. Anything that meant working with my hands and creating something was something I wanted to learn)and then entered the personal computer. Another fascination to deal with!
However, in the 80’s, they didn’t have anything like the wonderful programs that they have today such as Painter, Paint Shop Pro, Dogwaffle, Xara, Photo-Brush, Photoshop…just to name a few. And that’s when I discovered the very wonderful world of digital painting! Now that was true love! You didn’t have to pull out your paints, you didn’t have to put them away, and you could take your software and laptop on the road when you traveled….Yup, love at first byte.
I still continue to paint in the traditional manner of course, and do traditional art shows and have won traditional awards of which I’m very proud of. And several of my pieces are in Colorado, SD, Florida, Wyoming, Nebraska, Texas, California, Pennsylvania and Montana.
Probably nothing will ever take the place of holding that pencil in my hand, the satisfaction of completing a complicated watercolor, or the smell of a finished oil painting. But there is a new level of art in digital painting that has it’s own fascination and desirability that you just can’t find anywhere else. Come and join me in the fun!
